Recently our federal criminal defense lawyers have seen a rise in the number of counterfeit cigarette and counterfeit cigarette tax stamp cases being prosecuted in federal court.  Large counterfeit cigarette rings have been indicted and charged with counterfeit cigarette tax stamp crimes and conspiracy.

The US Prosecutors Office loves to charge individuals with conspiracy.  Its a catch all that allows them to try you with little to no evidence.

Counterfeit cigarettes are clearly an enormous problem – and one that costs the government a huge amount of money in lost taxes. Recent figures from UK tobacco manufacturers found that a staggering 43% of cigarettes in the North of England were illegal – either smuggled or counterfeit. Law enforcement needs to take notice of this issue.
